January 23, 2010 With a month to go in the season... by Matt Mulhern The 2009-10 Hill Boys Varsity Hockey Team is having another solid season with a record of 8-9-1. The Blues got off to an excellent start winning the Albany Academy Tournament and had a strong showing at the Lawrence Academy Tournament going 2-1-1. After the return from the winter break the Blues were out of playing shape from the holidays and dropped 3 games at the Tabor Academy Tournament followed by three consecutive loses to the likes of; Delbarton, Philly Jr. Flyer's and Canterbury. Girls Varsity
January 28, 2010 Girls Hockey Midseason Update by Heather Olney The girls’ hockey team is having a great season so far and is looking forward to more success over the next month. While Hill’s six wins show just how well the players work together and the talent that they posses, the four losses the team has faced this year say just as much. Hill’s biggest losses this year have been to the Quakers U19 team (2-0) and to league opponent Morristown Beard (4-2). Keeping talented teams within two goals is an outstanding accomplishment, especially considering some of the losses Hill has faced in past seasons. January 28, 2010 Varsity B Midseason Update by Joe Lagor The Varsity B Boy’s hockey team is still searching for its first victory of the season.  Nonetheless, the boys are working very hard and remain positive in their outlook.  Early season injuries prevented us from playing with a full squad until just recently, and we are hopeful that good things lie ahead this season.  The team is certainly improvement and the coaches are very appreciative of the competitiveness of the players as individuals and as a team.  There is still a reasonable possibility that the team will qualify for the IHL playoffs.  The team has strong senior leadership in PJ Mara ’10 and Johnny Oberbeck ’10 and solid goaltending in Kevin Jung ’12 and Henry Rand ’11.  Sam LaBranche ’11 leads the team in scoring and is also providing excellent leadership.  The team is ready for the second half of the season and the push towards the playoffs. photo by Rich Buser more »

Led by Nate Yinger '05 and supported by Mark Ruskin's innovative team at FASTHockey, these games are available for a small fee and bring you the excitement of watching the Blues crash and  shoot and skate against the best competition in prep school hockey.

The Amazing History of Hill Hockey -- In Photos

The Winningest Team in Hill Hockey History - 1976-1977

The '76-'77 Boys Varsity Hockey Team posted one of the most impressive records in the history of all prep and high school hockey. They recorded a 21-2 record and Dan Brugman '77 scored 45 goals along with 50 assists. His line, which included Capt. Dave Tenney and Bruce Bollinger, scored nearly 200 points. They won nearly every tournament they entered across the landscape of eastern hockey. The team's accomplishments are a true testament to their skills and the genius of Coach Eccleston. Our hats are off to them, covering the ice the way caps do after a hat trick!

The HHA has uploaded and posted incredible new files of hockey team photos and action shots going back to the early nineteenth century. Nate Yinger '05 worked on the project most of the summer and pulled off the impossible. It's an amazing walk through time and we're sure you'll enjoy the journey.

Hats Off to Nate Yinger '05

Nate Yinger '05 spent a major part of his summer at Hill going through all the old Dials and the entire archive of Hill Hockey. He took hundreds of pictures and did hundreds of scans. The result is our impressive Team Photos section of the Photo Gallery.

We are very happy for the support of the Hill Hockey Association.  Since the very impressive rink fund-raising campaign during which George Knapp mobilized so many of you to make the Hall-Eccleston Rink a reality, our hockey supporters have built a community that enriches our program.  One great example is the revived alumni game (usually the 2^nd weekend in February).  On the ice, alumni and friends of the program show what skills they have left, revive old friendships, and make new ones. When we adjourn to a local establishment for food and drink, the camaraderie continues.

I know that the leaders of HHA will do all they can to improve the Hill Hockey experience for our current players, while at the same time enjoying and sharing the experience themselves.  Like the alumni game, HHA’s website is an opportunity to both relive the past glories of Mr. Hall and Mr. Eccleston’s program and also keep up with the team’s recent accomplishments.
