November 22, 2010 Born and Raised in Duluth Published on November 12, 2010 in the Cheboygan Daily Tribune. Late last week in my home office on Mullett Lake I received an email from my old friend and hockey teammate Tom Dillon out in New Jersey. It was almost time to climb the pine steps for a night’s sleep. I’d stuck the last warped wooden storm window into our final defensive position. Sal had gone up for the night. I could let myself open the email. I read these words. “I remember in Duluth when I had to take your place on the right point. You hadn’t been off the ice for ten minutes the whole game. You said something like ‘go, Tom, I love you, man.’ I’ll never forget that.” My mind drifted into the past through a grey curtain.

2011-2012 Fundraiser for Hill Hockey
2011-2012 Boys Varsity with new rink banners behind.
Dear Hill Hockey Association Members and Friends of Hill Hockey:
Another exciting season of Hill Hockey is upon us. We’ve accomplished a lot in the last few years to support the program at Hill and we need to lace up the skates again.
What did we help fund this past year?
1. Purchased a new sound system for the rink and 10 banners of our competitor schools for display at the rink. Both are classy improvements!
2. Boys Varsity team attendance at the Empire Cup which would not have been possible without your donations.
3. Entrance Fee to the 2010 Yale University Pre-Season College Showcase.
4. Three gifts of $1,000 each to our three teams to use as they saw fit which led to the purchase of a new video DVD sysytem in Boys locker room, embroidered hockey vests for Boys Varsity B team, and the Girls Varsity banquet.
Not bad, eh?
So what are our goals for this year's fundraising efforts?
1. Help replenish funds used to for recent appearance at 2011 Worcester Academy Pre-season Showcase and the same for ice time at a local arena prior to the opening of our rink at the end of October.
2. Begin recognition place at teh rink that highlights all Hilll players who have gone on to distinquish themselves at a high competitive level after leaving Hill.
3. Support appearances by Hill players at local boys and girls club programs in order to raise visibility of Hill hockey and to help those programs.
4. And of special note... provide funding for a once in a lifetime opportunity for the boys Varsity team to participate in the Winter Classic game against Lawrenceville in Citizen's Bank Park on Jan. 4 which is part of the NHL's Winter Classic Festivities!
We hope that you will strongly consider a generous gift to help with these efforts this year.
Please donate through our website or the Hill site. You will also be receiving a letter by mail very soon with this same appeal.

Nate Yinger '05 worked on the project most of the summer and pulled off the impossible. It's an amazing walk through time and we're sure you'll enjoy the journey. Just click on the Gallery link and go to Team Photos. Look for your team, your teammates and your friends while cruising through the amazing history of Hill Hockey! Please help us identify the players. We need help with that! And share with us any photographs you might have. We've also been grinding on our For the Record section, a work in progress, where team and individual records are posted. If you have any stats to bring to our attention, please do!
