A Meeting of the Minds

The Second Annual Meeting of the Hill Hockey Association was held in the Pourhouse Saturday, Valentines Day, after the alumni skate. Approximately, 30 members attended and the following new officers were elected unanimously for a three-year term:

• Vice Presidents Brian Laing '90
• Vice President Paul Oberbeck '80
• Vice President Tom Dillon '71
• Secretary Stu Seiden '98 

Current VP Don Lewis '71 has agreed to take on the additional role of Editor-in-Chief of Ice Chips, the HHA webpage.

Bill Thomas '80 accepted his nomination and election to the HHA Board.

Rob Isham '71, HHA current president, announced that he will serve for one more year and then turn the position over to a new leader, while remaining on the Board.

The convivial atmosphere of the Pourhouse enabled free and frank discussions with coaches and Hill staff about how the HHA could be of more help to the Hill and its hockey program. Several items were identified and accepted by the new executive team:

The procurement of on-line live and archived viewing service for all Hill Hockey games through FastHockey or B2. These services, which are used by colleges, junior teams and high school programs, enable anyone to view a game or a participant's performance if unable to attend in person--especially, college coaches and scouts, parents and loved ones and potential recruits to the Hill program.

Provide the teams with nominal financial support for miscellaneous necessities through the season, whether it be practice jerseys, chow or  travel amenities.

Explore a one-day bantam tourney to showcase the Hill arena and the program.
The coaches also confirmed that they are very interested in having the HHA identify and refer prospects to the coaches. Tom Dillon '71 has volunteered to coordinate Alumni support for that program and will work with Karl Miran, Athletic Director, on ensuring applicable guidelines are followed.

The group also discussed how to make the alumni skate more popular. The question was raised of whether to change the date to a regular weekend and not a holiday weekend (Presidents Day or St. Valentine's) as in years past.
